Towards a translation history of Julius Caesar

UPDATE (26 May 2022):

An edited recording of this lecture is now available via YouTube.

On Tuesday 17th May, TCC Director Chris Thurman will give his inaugural lecture as Professor at Wits University. His topic is:

“A Play in (South) Africa? Towards a translation history of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar

Prof Thurman will propose a Julius Caesar translation history project, based on the research interests of a number of TCC affiliates, that complements various projects already underway thanks to the support of our primary funders Legacy Underwriting Managers, the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences and the Humboldt Foundation. These include the digitisation and bibiliographical work required in order to establish the Sol Plaatje Archive of Shakespeare in African Languages, and the publication of new translations of Shakespeare’s plays under the imprint of TCC Press.
