The Sol Plaatje Archive of Shakespeare in African Languages
Building on the success of the translation digitisation project undertaken with our partner Shakespeare ZA (a growing archive of translations of Shakespeare’s plays into South African languages that aims to make texts available as searchable resources and as “readable” objects in a virtual exhibition), the Tsikinya-Chaka Centre has begun the process of expanding this into a pan-African enterprise.
The Sol Plaatje Archive of Shakespeare in African Languages will make as many primary texts as possible available digitally; it will also curate secondary material and a critical bibliography. A beta version of the archive, hosted by the Programme for African Digital Humanities via Omeka, is currently being tested.
