New books on Sol Plaatje

TCC affiliates Brian Willan and Sabata-mpho Mokae publish new books on Sol Plaatje

Solomon T. Plaatje is an important figure for the Tsikinya-Chaka Centre, its affiliates and its activities. You could go so far as to say that without Plaatje, there would be no TCC! So it’s very exciting that two affiliates of the Centre, leading Plaatje scholars Brian Willan and Sabato-mpho Mokae, have teamed up to edit two collections that offer new insights into Plaatje’s life and work - including, of course, his responses to and translations of Shakespeare’s plays.

Sol Plaatje’s Mhudi: History, Criticism, Celebration was published by Jacana in 2020 and will appear in a new edition by Boydell & Brewer in March 2021. Willan and Mokae also edited Sol T. Plaatje: A life in letters for Historical Publications Southern Africa (HiPSA), which came out towards the end of last year.
